Certain Jeopardy
Certain Jeopardy

Six American men live behind a protective façade, their real work hidden from neighbors and friends. Different in countless ways, they are intimately the same in one: at any moment their lives can be altered with a phone call, and their actions may change the world.
They are Special Ops. And one team’s mission is about to hit certain jeopardy status when the discovery of an Al Qaeda base in Venezuela becomes secondary to thwarting the transport of a nuclear weapons expert from that training camp to Iran.

Informed by the true combat experience of Captain Jeff Struecker and finessed by award-winning novelist Alton Gansky, Certain Jeopardy is an immersing and pulsating fictional account of what really happens at every level of a stealth engagement: the physical enemy encounter, the spiritual war fought within a soldier, and the emotional battles in families back at home.

Reviews

As a decorated member of the US Army’s elite fighting team, Jeff Struecker has lived the sort of action he writes about. He was one of the heroes of Black Hawk Down, and has over twenty years fighting experience in Panama, Kuwait, Afghanistan and Iraq, crowning his achievements with an assignment as a military chaplain. His research is impeccable, the characters realistic and sympathetic, and the action is riveting. The scenes with the families of these soldiers really give you an unblinking view of just what the families of the Special Ops guys go through, never knowing where their loved ones are, or when, or even if, they are coming home.

Struecker takes you right into Chavez’s Venezuela and the action gets violent in a hurry. Give yourself plenty of time to finish this book once you start it…I couldn’t put it down. This Special Ops team would make an exciting series…I hope to see more of them.

Sit down and strap yourself in for this adrenaline filled story of a Special Ops team doing what they do best. Eye opening and thrilling Jeff Struecker and Alton Gansky combine combat experience with writing skill and show it off to full advantage. I was anxious to get beyond the early chapters and into the thick of things but getting to know the individual soldiers, their nicknames and personalities, is essential to the reading experience. While this book appealed to my adventurous side it also connected emotionally as the plight of the soldier’s loved ones is also laid bare. Dealing with what life throws at us all, but having to leave with little or no notice to places unknown other than the certainty of danger, the sacrifices of our armed forces and their families is highlighted with accuracy and intensity. Leavened with humour and spiritual insight this book will appeal to both men and women. Certain Jeopardy is an excellent first foray into fiction by Captain Jeff Struecker – I hope he will be back with Sgt. Major Eric Moyer’s band of brothers soon!

I don’t know about you, but I am fascinated by the stories of real life men and women both highly trained and wholly committed to defending our country, often at great personal sacrifice. As I was in the midst of devouring reading this novel, the story of Navy SEALS rescuing a kidnapped merchant ship captain dominated the news. Heroism, bravery, and sacrifice inspire us, rightly so, and all are present in Certain Jeopardy. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to anyone who loves a fast paced adrenaline ride that will keep you reading until the last page is turned.

An up all night, pray on every page novel that will force you to thank God for the men who serve (America) and the families who wait at home. I’m rating Certain Jeopardy the Golden Bookmark for writing authenticity and realism, and voting it “Best Military Suspense of 2009.” I can only hope these two great men collaborate on something new soon. I haven’t gotten enough of Moyer and his crew!

From A Peek at My Bookshelf

Certain Jeopardy by Jeff Struecker and Alton Gansky is like the TV show ‘The Unit’ on steroids! A group of six men appear to live normal American lives, but at any time they can be called to report to a Special Operations group performing actions for the safety of their country at the risk of their lives. The men are called to Venezuela to investigate rumors of a Al-Qaeda training camp. Instead they stumble into the kidnapping of a nuclear scientist who can empower Iran to create their own nuclear weapons. To rescue him and his family that is being held hostage for his cooperation will force them to use every skill they know and may cost them their lives. I’m not usually a fan of military thrillers, but this book grabbed me on page one and didn’t let go until I finally remembered to breathe again at the end . . . a powerful look at Army life. I hope that the authors will revisit this team, because I would love to read more!

I had such a hard time holding this book to read it! I needed to bite my nails because of the continuous action and suspense, but then I couldn't turn the pages fast enough! What's a reader to do?

To say I loved Certain Jeopardy is an understatement. Co-written by Alton Gansky and Captain Jeff Struecker, these pages merge the skills of a novelist with the insights of an Army Ranger. This story literally explodes with drama, danger and an unwavering desire to serve God and country.
